That night, he is roused by an intruder digging around in the corner. The pearl is knocked from his hands, but he is able to stab one of his assailants before he is knocked unconscious.
He resolves to sell the pearl in the capital. Just as Kino prepares to attack, Coyotito lets out a cry, waking the sleepers.
